Bases of the 1st Roca Awards Gastronomic Literature Awards

The annual Roca Awards for gastronomic literature, sponsored by El Celler de Can Roca, are born with the purpose of highlighting gastronomic literature in all its facets. The awards will be presented on April 22, 2025, at El Celler de Can Roca.

Categories

Best published book

  • Prize for book published between January 1, 2024, and December 31 of the same year.
  • The prize consists of three categories: best book written in Spanish, best book written in Catalan, and best book written in English.
  • Works must have gastronomy as a fundamental axis regardless of the genre: fiction, history, essay, biography, recipes, poetry, etc.
  • Nominations may be submitted by jury members and publishers.
  • The jury will consist of 3 individuals for the Spanish book, 3 individuals for the Catalan book and 2 individuals for the English book.
  • The award cannot be left unclaimed. The decision of the jury will be final.
  • The financial endowment will be announced soon.

Best food journalism work

  • Prize for the best article, report, or journalistic work linked to gastronomy, published between January 1, 2024, and December 31 of the same year.
  • Any journalistic work linked to gastronomy published in newspapers, magazines, or digital media may apply for nomination.
  • Works must be submitted by the authors themselves via email to periodisme@rocaawards.com. The email should include a PDF of the text, mentioning the publication and date. The authors must provide their full name, ID number, and contact information.
  • The jury will consist of three individuals of recognized prestige in the field of gastronomy and journalism.
  • The award cannot be left unclaimed. The decision of the jury will be final.
  • The financial endowment will be announced soon.

Unpublished work

  • Prize for the best unpublished gastronomic work.
  • Any adult author may apply by presenting an unpublished manuscript in Spanish or Catalan.
  • The award is open to all literary genres.
  • Gastronomy must be the fundamental axis of the work.
  • The text cannot have been awarded or submitted to another competition.
  • The minimum length of the text will be 150 pages, in Times New Roman or Arial, size 12, double-spaced. The cover of the work must include the title and the author's name. The text must be in PDF format.
  • Works with pseudonyms will not be accepted.
  • Works must be submitted by the authors via email to obrainedita@rocaawards.com. The authors must provide their full name, ID number, and contact information. They must also submit a declaration of their ownership of all exploitation rights of the work and that the work has not been submitted for any other prize at the time of submission. Author must also declare their acceptance of all the terms expressed here.
  • The deadline for submissions is December 31 at 24:00. Any text received after the closing date will be disqualified.
  • In the event of winning, the acceptance of the award implies the recognition and acceptance by the author of the exclusive transfer, for a period of 7 years from the signing of the contract, of the reproduction and distribution rights by Random House Mondadori.
  • The jury will consist of three individuals of recognized prestige in the field of culture and gastronomy.
  • The award may be left vacant if the jury so decides. The jury's decision will be final.
